This is a tough review to write since Law was referred to me by a friend. Everything started off really well and he gave us an amazing quote for web work, a “refresh” is what he called it, along with some help with reporting and more. With the price being about a quarter of what the others were quoting, and his confidence level and being the reference of a friend, I was super excited. He did mention he wasn’t familiar with the Oxygen builder plug in for Wordpress, which is what our site was built with, but he was confident about being able to learn it and make all the changes needed with no issue. I trusted him as he explained solid reasoning behind it. I asked him about a staging site and he mentioned it wasn’t necessary because he would work late at night and make updates with no issue. Again, he was very easy to trust. Timeline for the project was 2 – 4 weeks and I paid him upfront. From there, he started missing deadlines, failed to show up for some meetings, wouldn’t be as responsive in emails, failed to pick up the phone, and sent me a few video explanations of how Oxygen was working along with some areas it was giving him trouble and confusing him. All this time, I was learning Oxygen and exploring on another dummy site so I could better understand the system. And his explainer videos were basic. This got me extremely worried as were already past the 1 month mark, issues with the website persisted and, in some cases, got worse. He changes some buttons, but instead of adjusting the ID (individual button), he adjusted the class of buttons (all of the buttons in that group) which provided a poor layout. The work he did on the menu created weird effects and I had to go in a fix everything. This was problematic because I would just check on the site every couple of days and notice issues on the site. And again, the site was live. I had to go in and at least put band aids on the site as I was continuing to learn about Oxygen. More deadlines were given, he agreed upon them, but they were never met. It occurred to me after 2.5 months that Law could not provide the services we had agreed to for the money so we let him go with an ask for a refund. He did make some additions like a cookie policy and terms and agreement, blanket statements, but it was still beneficial. But most of the services he was to provide didn’t just fall short, they either weren’t delivered or actually made the site worst. A month went by and he has yet to refund the money, answer any emails, texts and phone calls pertaining to the refund so we have sent a legal letter to him with a new deadline before we pursue legal action. One of the largest disappointments is Law expressing his ability to achieve something, not able to follow through on it, and then deciding to keep the money while ghosting his client. Again, it’s a hard review to write, but it’s an experience that needs to be shared.
